Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World Tier List Hub

Early ranks and family jobs, written before the December launch.

Tier List Hub

There is no honest endgame tier list for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World yet. The campaign launches December 3, 2026. The demo only lets you befriend rank G and F. Anyone selling an S-tier X-rank spreadsheet in September is guessing.

This hub is still useful. Square Enix published the skeleton: more than 500 monsters, eight families, nine ranks from G to X, sizes S and L, personalities, talents, Plus Value. Hands-on previews added enough combat texture to rank jobs, not species. Use it to draft an early party and to understand families and ranks. Come back after launch when Gauntlet and online results exist.

What we can rank today

Family coverage beats a pretty duplicate. Bianca scouts beasts, dragons, and undead more easily. Nera scouts slimes, nature, and material more easily. A “tier list” that ignores wrangler affinity is a fanfic.

Size is a slot tax. Large monsters occupy two party slots, hold extra traits, and can act twice. They are not automatically higher tier. They are a commitment. Small monsters keep scout odds healthy because more bodies still help Show of Force.

Rank is a ceiling, not a personality. Plus Value synthesis can produce a child of a higher rank than either parent. G-rank compost is how you grow D-rank and above. The demo’s G/F lock is a sandbox, not the meta.

Role is what previews actually showed. Nintendo Life and GamerEscape describe four-on-the-field combat with stances, items, and one Wrangler’s Spirit. You want damage, sustain, and a scout battery. Cute is a bonus.

Published newcomers (not a ranking, a watchlist)

Square Enix has named several first-timers:

  • Slime Balls — slime family, sour plum, veggie mix, and shrimp tempura flavors
  • Bamboo Badboy — nature family, looks like a shoot, then ambushes
  • Groovy Grouse — nature family, dances to music only it hears
  • Platypup — fluffy bill that can crush rocks
  • Piña Marauder — pineapple menace, Nintendo Life’s preview favorite

These are collection targets and synthesis ingredients, not proof they will dominate Gauntlet. Put them on a wishlist. Do not rearrange your eight demo slots around a flavor slime unless you love it.

How this wiki will update the list

After December 3, this hub will split “early story,” “synthesis climb,” and “online / Gauntlet” instead of one noisy chart. Until then, the early party page is the actionable document. Pair it with how to scout and the recipe list so your G-ranks have a future.

Named first-timers — Slime Balls, Bamboo Badboy, Groovy Grouse, Platypup, Piña Marauder — have their own new monsters watchlist so they are not buried in rank theory.

If a creator posts a 50-monster ranking based on Dark Prince memory, treat it as a cousin, not a patch note. The Withered World already changed the synthesis menu (you pick the child), added the Waterwing Can, and split wrangler kits. Old Joker habits only half apply.

For story faces that are not monsters, see companions. For the paid tools that warp metal farms and re-scout dungeons, see DLC. Those change economy; they do not write a tier list by themselves.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you scout your first monster.

Is this a final competitive tier list?

No. The game is still upcoming. This hub ranks jobs, families, and demo constraints. Full-game ranks need Gauntlet and online data after December 3, 2026.

Should I bench large monsters?

Not automatically. They cost two slots and pay extra actions. Early on, too many L-ranks starve scouting. Details are on families and ranks.

Where do I see starter-friendly picks?

The early party page. It is built for the demo's G/F limit and for wrangler affinity.
