Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World New Monsters Watchlist

Named newcomers, not a 500-row Pokédex. Ranks and locations still land with the full game.

New Monsters

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World has more than 500 monsters. Square Enix has not published the full English list. This page is only the newcomers they have actually named in 2026 briefings and the ones preview writers could not stop repeating. It is a watchlist for the demo and for December scouting, not a finished dex.

Returning series staples — slimes, dragons, metal slimes once the Metallic Ring exists — still matter. They live on families and ranks. New faces belong here so they do not get lost inside a G-to-X lecture.

Official first-timers (July 23, 2026)

Square Enix’s combat and synthesis briefing introduced three new monsters on purpose.

Slime Balls — slime family. Three flavors: sour plum, veggie mix, shrimp tempura. They are bitesize. They are merch. They are also three slots if you keep all of them. Early party already says keep one flavor. Synthesis can wait for the extras.

Bamboo Badboy — nature family. Looks like a succulent bamboo shoot. Then it attacks people who got hungry. Nera scouts nature more easily. Bianca can still keep one as a parent for a nature child.

Groovy Grouse — nature family. Dances to music that only it hears. Same family note as Bamboo Badboy. Two nature jokes are still one family. Do not build a four-monster front line out of puns.

Other named newcomers

Platypup — fluffy fur, a bill that can crush rocks, a quack that lies. Square Enix showed it as a brand-new face in the June world feature. Treat it as a small attacker candidate until stats exist.

Piña Marauder — Nintendo Life’s Gamescom favorite, an evil-looking pineapple. Not in the July “trio” press list, but it is a named preview monster. If it shows up in your demo grass, it is a legal flex slot.

Hands-on synthesis examples (not claimed as unique unlocks): Bantamweight + Bunicorn into a Bullfinch (Nintendo Life). Mud mannequin + jumping jackal into escudogre, and the Plus Value rank-up into well wisher (Square Enix). Those last two are on the recipe list.

How to hunt them without a spawn map

  • Change day and night. Square Enix said the clock changes who appears.
  • Change biomes. Vegetable plains, always-rain swamps, beaches, sunken ships. Nature jokes like Bamboo Badboy belong in green places first.
  • Use Show of Force with meat when the percentage is close. Flavor slimes will still fail if your bench is empty.
  • In the demo, only rank G and F can be befriended. A cute newcomer that is actually rank E is a look, not a keeper.
  • After launch, Mega Mole Hole lets you re-meet befriended families by rank. It does not invent a monster you never scouted.

Ranking honesty

There is no honest S-tier for a monster Square Enix showed in a still. Personalities steer growth. Size S vs L changes slot tax. Bianca vs Nera changes which family even appears on the scout table. A Groovy Grouse on Nera is a different project than the same bird on Bianca.

Use this page as a shopping list. Use the tier list hub for jobs. Use synthesis when a newcomer is only a parent on the way to something with a starry icon.

When Square Enix names the remaining families and the rest of the new roster, rows get added here with a date, not a rumor.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you scout your first monster.

Are Slime Balls three different monsters?

Yes. Sour plum, veggie mix, and shrimp tempura are three slime-family newcomers. Keep one on the demo team unless you enjoy identical jobs.

Can I scout these in the September demo?

Only if they appear as rank G or F. The demo blocks higher ranks. Location lists are unpublished; change time and biome before you burn meat.

Is Piña Marauder official?

Nintendo Life named it from a Square Enix hands-on. It is not in the July trio press list. Treat it as a preview sighting until it is on a Square Enix monster sheet.
