Mega Mole Hole Guide

Mega Mole Hole is one of four launch DLC packs for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, releasing December 3, 2026 alongside the full game. It is a dungeon type that only generates monsters you have befriended at least once. You choose a rank and a family, and the dungeon fills with scouts of that exact type. Square Enix describes it explicitly as a breeding tool: the fastest way to reunite with a specific parent you need for a synthesis recipe, without walking back to the original biome.

This is not a story dungeon. It does not advance the Witherwood plot. If you only scout occasionally and never touch synthesis, Mega Mole Hole is an empty room. If you spend real time in the synthesis kitchen, this pack pays for itself the first time it saves you a thirty-minute detour.

What Mega Mole Hole Actually Does

What it is: A dungeon type that generates encounters from your existing monster collection.

What you choose: Family and rank. The dungeon populates exclusively from monsters you have already befriended in that category.

What it gives you: A fast, predictable farming environment for synthesis parents.

What it does not give you: New monsters you have never scouted, story progression, or anything that bypasses the befriending requirement.

Why Breeders Need It

Synthesis requires level 10 parents. Those parents disappear into the child. If you need a second Mud Mannequin for a second escudogre run, you have two options:

  1. Walk back to the material biome, scout at the right time of day, and hope the spawn table cooperates.
  2. Enter Mega Mole Hole, choose the Material family and the rank you need, and fight a dungeon full of exactly what you want.

The Mole Hole converts hours of walking and percentage rolling into a clear dungeon run. For players working systematically through the recipe list, that time savings adds up across every special synthesis child.

Rank Selection and Family Filtering

The dungeon interface asks for two inputs: family and rank. You cannot combine two families in one run. You cannot request all ranks at once. The workflow for a specific parent looks like this:

  1. Identify the family and rank of the monster you need.
  2. Enter Mega Mole Hole.
  3. Select that family and rank.
  4. Scout the encounter.

How It Relates to Other DLC

Monster MarathonsSide-scrolling expedition mini-gameCompletionists, idle players
Metallic RingTurns enemies into metal slimesLevel grinders
Scout Run VIP CardMore spawns and snacks during Scout RunCompletionists

Mega Mole Hole is the only DLC that directly accelerates a core game system. The other three are convenience or side-content additions.

Does Mega Mole Hole Expire?

No. It is a permanent dungeon type added by the DLC pack. Once purchased, it is available throughout the full campaign and any post-game content.

What to Farm First

The first Mega Mole Hole run most players will want to make: Material and Beast family monsters for the escudogre recipe. Square Enix published this recipe as the primary synthesis teaching example, and both parents are common early scouts — but if you have already fused one, the Mole Hole is the fastest way to get it back.

After escudogre, the four-monster Balhib climb becomes the next target. Mega Mole Hole is the tool that makes that climb less painful.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you scout your first monster.

Can Mega Mole Hole spawn monsters I have never befriended?

No. The dungeon only generates encounters from your existing collection. You must have scouted a monster at least once before it appears in the Mole Hole.

Is Mega Mole Hole worth it if I only scout occasionally?

Probably not. Without active synthesis practice, the Mole Hole is an empty room. If you are working on recipes, it is the most impactful of the four launch DLC packs.

Can I farm metal slimes in Mega Mole Hole?

Yes, if you have already befriended metal slimes. The Metallic Ring DLC is a separate tool.

Does the dungeon reset after each run?

Standard dungeon reset rules apply. Each entry repopulates the encounters based on your current collection and the rank/family filter.
